The other day, I happened to spot something unusual, so took this pic of the Aesculus hippocastanum (horse chestnut tree) I planted as a conker back in 1986†.
There was a reason for this particular shot. Can you see what it was? (If you’re struggling to find it, click on the image above for a close-up that may enlighten).
Isn’t nature wonderful?

Holy crap! Looks like it left horse (chestnut) manure behind!

Ah, but, it’s a very clever, ingenious bug. Quite unlike the software kind.

Indeed, and no doubt one that contributes far more of benefit to the planet and its inhabitants than the software kind do!

A butterfly that looks like a leaf!

Butterfly or moth? I couldn’t be sure as I was distracted by the cone shaped object behind it….

According to the Butterfly Conservation website, it’s a butterfly. But on the same site, there’s a page that points out that the distinction between ‘butterfly’ and ‘moth’ isn’t an easy one. Long story short: it’s a member of the lepidoptera.
And, though it’s a total non sequitur, that brings to mind one of my late father’s favourite jokes:
PS … ‘cone shaped object’? I think I’ve gone blind.

Pointy shaped thing to the right of the moth.
Non Sequitur – What the hell is a stoat?

I still can’t see the cone. My guess is that you like ice cream too much.
A stoat? It’s a bit like a weasel ;)

About 3pm at the back of the main leaf subject. It could be the tip of an asparagus spear
