We’re fucked

Cover art for 'Ten Billion' by Stephen EmmottIf we knew an asteroid were to hit the Earth on a certain day and wipe us out, we would mobilize every scientist, bureaucrat, CEO and soldier planet-wide to deal with it.

Well, an equivalent disaster is headed our way, and not only are we doing nothing about it, we’re actively ignoring and denying it.

I read ‘Ten Billion’ by Stephen Emmott the other day. It’s a very short book; it only took me an hour to finish. It’s true that its facts are debated, but the message is clear.

In my opinion, it ought to be compulsory reading for every inhabitant of Planet Earth.

Happy Earth Overshoot Day!

We’re only fucked if Trump, Boris et al and all the right wing media hacks are wrong and all the world scientists are right. So what are you worried about…oh, wait!

Course the scary thing is, this is exactly how many on the right look at the situation! We have two pandemics to deal with, this Covid thing and stupidity. I’m not sure which is the more dangerous.

  2. Borrowed the ebook from my local library and, since it’s only 59 pages, read the entire thing today. You’re right–every person on the planet should read it. I feel very sorry for our children’s children.

Cheerful post today, Mr Pendantry. Nice to know what we’re up against if an asteroid or Vogons don’t arrive first.

Yeah, sorry about that, Bear. Reality is a bitch!

Yes, well while we’re considering reality, I don’t think it really matters to reality if humans or Earth survive or not, whether we trash the planet first or not and whether any life form should think if it just does the right things itself, then everything will be rosy, because they have absolutely no say, in reality, whether it will or not.
