Avian thievery

"It's not true!" -- Were it merely said.
It's puzzling! I would have thought
by someone it must have been taught
to recognise a loaf of bread.
Not a thing to which it was bred;
that resembles not a wheatsheaf.
This act almost beggars belief!
If this bird were any younger
would it be driven by hunger?
Were it so, would we still cry "thief!"?

    Cheap white bread isn’t very nutritious, but when you’re hungry, you may not have a hole lot of choice.
