Here’s the third ‘fit’ of the triva quiz I’ve made up for fans of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in the run-up to this year’s Towel Day. The quiz is derived from the Primary and Secondary phases of the original radio show.
It’s a trilogy in four parts. The links to these are below: but note that, unless you have access to a hyperspatial field generator, the last link may not be useful yet:
There are, naturally enough, 42 questions in all: Stay posted for the final dozen, which will be revealed at 10:10:10 UTC on Towel Day, 25 May 2020!
There’s a slightly different format here from what has gone before: Tom from Beyond the Sphere pointed out that his dumbphone has a ‘dark mode’ that revealed the answers prematurely, so from now on I’m listing the questions first and answers afterwards.
Q21: How much would it cost to buy a copy of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy from Megadodo Publications?
Q22: What is the precis of the reason why the other two chicks look exactly like Lintilla?
Q23: Who is the private brain-care specialist of both Zaphod Beeblebrox and Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz?
Q24: Who has a brain the size of a planet?
Q25: What creature first uttered the (translated) phrase ‘So long, and thanks for all the fish’?
Q26: From which star system did the advertising executives who came up with the Milliways slogan hail?
Q27: Who created the Total Perspective Vortex?
Q28: How does Hig Hurtenflurst, an executive of the Dolmansaxlil Shoe Corporation, spell ‘revoked’?
Q29: Ford Prefect sent a new entry describing the Earth to the Guide’s editors. According to him, they ‘trimmed it a bit’… what was the revised entry?
Q30: Who wrote the best-selling book ‘Well, That About Wraps It Up For God’?
Note: I’ve attempted to hide the answers by making their text colour white. Click and drag your mouse (assuming you can) over the ‘A:’ lines to reveal the answers. I’ve also put links on most of the answers to places where you can find out more — except for a few where I couldn’t find anything definitive; for those, you’ll have to listen closely to the radio show if you want proof!
Attention dumbphone users: as your phone’s not smart enough… um… unless, apparently, you have it on ‘Dark mode’… to allow you to reveal the answers, I’ll be posting them all at this address the day after Towel Day. That post will be password protected, and I’ll be giving you clues to the password… your third is: 101010.
A21: £3.95 for the book, plus £597,812,406.07 P&P
A23: Gag Halfrunt
A25: A dolphin
A27: Trin Tragula
A29: ‘Mostly Harmless’
A30: Oolon Colluphid
