21 Questions for 2020: #15

Transition Times

15. Question for Earth Day: Will humans seize the potential of this corona-induced “time-out” to move towards “conscious evolution”?

For some time I’ve been writing with grief and shame about the way humans, particularly my Euro-descended people, have been battering our beautiful Earth. I have been not only a bystander to the violence, but complicit as well—burning fossil fuels, consuming food and products produced in violence.

I sit in judgment on myself, and shame myself for all the ways I have not done enough to stand up to the prevailing culture, every single day.

But I also know that this way of looking at the human-Earth relationship is fundamentally human, part and parcel of the longstanding western emphasis on duality.

Mother Earth doesn’t blame or shame. She doesn’t waste time and energy in grief and rage. Her entire Being is dedicated to Life; Life is her business, pleasure and purpose.

  1. I will not write an essay in your post but, in short, no. If the virus has shown us anything, it is that the most valuable members of society are some of the people we pay the least. Correcting that will be too big an ask. When this is over, bankers will go back to making money for themselves, as before.

  2. I beg to differ a wee bit, or perhaps delve a little deeper. I have seen Mother Earth’s rage in pummeling storms, floods, wildfires, etc. Not to say humanity hasn’t pushed her to the edge…and I wouldn’t blame her a bit for retaliating. I do believe her entire being is dedicated to life but that life itself needs death as she shows us every autumn and spring. Likewise, the concept of harmony in duality has existed for centuries in “eastern” philosophies such as the Tao…

  3. “She (MN) doesn’t waste time and energy in grief and rage. Her entire Being is dedicated to Life; Life is her business, pleasure and purpose.” Does that make sense now?

Hey guys. Lots of lies out there about the virus. Look around. The banksters never let a crisis go to waste!
