I made a new blogging friend the other day, Bryntin, via a rather cool method of his own devising that he calls a ‘Blog Leap Tour’, or BLT for short. Loosely based around the ‘six degrees of separation‘, the idea is that you start at one blog article, link to it, and then visit the site of the sixth ‘liker’ of that article. Repeat until you have six links. (There’s a few extra wrinkles, but that’s the gist of it.)
I checked with Bryntin, and he said he held no patents on the idea, and I was free to copy it if I felt mad enough (or words to that effect).
So without further ado, here’s the first of a series of possibly just one Wibble BLTs!
We start off in Cornwall — just a stone’s throw from here — and Bryntin’s latest BLT itself. I shan’t describe the sites to which he links as recursion often makes me feel more than a little bit queasy; you’ll have to follow the link yourself. And, as with all my off-site links, although of course I’d rather you returned here to continue the tour, I won’t hold it against you if you disappear forever: such is the nature of the Internet.
Counting to six takes us to Rachel Hill, who, according to her Gravatar is also in the UK (though I think she may currently be in India)….
Rachel’s current post is called ‘Look at the Bright Side‘ (a phrase that always makes me want to climb up onto a cross, swing my feet, and whistle). It’s a reblog from Sadagopan’s blog, and it focuses on the coronavirus outbreak, first comparing it to a lesser zombie apocalypse, but then going on to list no fewer than twenty ways to look at the experience in a positive light. “Staying in drinking tea and eating hot cross buns is the new going out,” says Rachel.
Counting to six takes us to SaaniaSparkle, whose Gravatar doesn’t list her blog (I should perhaps point her to my post ‘Using Gravatar to build traffic‘). But her name is pretty unique: Google helps me track her down, virtually at least (I have no clue where on Earth she is)….
Saania’s post is a poem entitled ‘The Enchanted Forest‘, a charming romp with squirrels, rabbits and dragonflies. I’m glad that I chanced upon a poem, since today is ‘World Poetry Day‘ — perhaps I should have tried to write this in rhyme: but maybe some other time.
Moving briskly along: number six this time is to ‘live_a_life_less_ordinary’ in California, and a blog called ‘Highway Pi’.
This blog has an intriguing theme: we’re on a highway, and the posts are ‘exits’ from it. The last post is a somewhat sad lament detailing how he’s been stiffed by a builder; that and other events appear to have curtailed his blogging urge. Maybe he’ll be back; it would be a shame if this were the last exit.
Now it seems we’re off to East Asia to visit with Caitlin.
Caitlin tells us that she’s settling down in Daegu, South Korea and looking forward to a trip to Thailand with her mum. She has written a book called ‘An Art Lover’s Guide to Glasgow’, in which she has combined her love for art with that for her native town.
Our last stop is to meet with Petrus van Zyl from South Africa, someone with ‘few words but so much to say’….
The most recent post is ‘Going Surfing‘. To me, this tells the tale of a world-weary man who’s off to find freedom on a surfboard. Do yourself a favour and follow this ?random link to more fascinating photographs on Petrus’ site.
… and there we have it: my first BLT. I hope that you’ve enjoyed the tour; if you have, please let me know in the comments, to encourage me to consider doing another one!
I have enjoyed it and I am encouraging you to do another one, if only to save me the bother. Thank you kindly.

It does take a rather long time, doesn’t it? I have to admit that I’m more tempted to head off and do one of my more usual rambling stream-of-consciousness posts, they don’t make my head hurt quite as much!

Yes but, on the other hand, it’s quite a lot quicker than walking it.

I think maybe you have me confused with someone else? I’m not ‘Bryn’… ?

This is a cool idea! I’ll have to check out some of those other blogs when I get a chance.
However, I should point out that Highway Pi is inactive as of last summer (2019). But I am still writing. In December 2018 I started a second blog (is it ok to put a link to it?), an episodic continuing story, a coming-of-age story about a university student set in (so far) 1995. I’m not sure at this point if I’ll ever go back to Highway Pi; it was too much to do two blogs at once.

Of course it’s ok to include a link… is it Don’t Let The Days Go By?
No reason why you can’t resurrect Highway Pi at some later time… Me, I’ve taken several months-long blogging holidays from Wibble in the past, it’s still been here when I’ve felt like coming back to it.

Yes, that’s it. :) I thought I changed my default blog on here, but it looks like you got the link from Gravatar and probably just clicked on the first one there.

I also just updated that post about getting stiffed by a builder to say that this blog was inactive and remind new readers of the other one. Looking at the things I wrote about that day, I can update by saying that so far I haven’t had any more major problems with the house since then, and the trip to New Mexico was a lot of fun.

Well, that’s good to hear — but why didn’t you update your old blog with that? :P

Good point. I should.

Cool! But time consuming, I guess!

Indeed! It took a couple of hours to put this together.

I think in that time I can read the posts of all the bloggers I follow! 😄

Thank you for visiting and mentioning the blog. BLT seems to be a cool concept.
Cheers!

Thank you for returning the favour! And you can blame Bryntin for the concept :)

My son and I used to play a different version using Wikipedia. Choose two articles at random and, using only links in the articles, find a path from one to the other…

… and was it possible?

Always… if the articles on either end had hyperlinks.

Found you through Sadagopan’s blog. Interesting concept of blog tour. Seems so much like stalking people’s profile son Instagram. You check out who’s been tagged or who has liked and commented, then you check out their profiles and just dive deeper and deeper. I like the idea. Would like to try it sometime, obviously when I have time :D

I have to admit it was quite an entertaining experience; I’ll probably do another one before too long. Nice to ‘meet’ you, Saumya! Hope you find something here of interest.

Interesting concept and one to follow through when the time is permitting, going down the rabbit hole which is the internet can lead to other writing ventures not carrying on.
