Hat tip to Dreamwalker’s Sanctuary for pointing me at this video:
[edit 01Apr2020 Blast, that video’s no longer available :( ]
Here are some words I wrote a few years ago (ok, so most of them belong to Frank Herbert, they’re taken from his fabulous Dune saga)…
I must not FB.
FB is the mind-killer.
FB is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my FB.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the FB has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain–
— ooooo, shiny! [This text should be invisible…]
I’ll end this post with a link to a very insightful piece by Anya Bettoney on
social media anxiety.
Neat! I was just writing a post about social media zombies myself. That video was on the creepy side…

I’ll look forward to reading that!

Loved this. Thank you! Now I think I may take a week off myself. Time to unplug for a bit.

i have been excoriating Facebook ( i have less delicate words for it, the least offensive being Faceborg, or, ‘We Will Assimilate You’). since its inception. Even close friends, so-called allies, are addicted to it and the other social media whoring sites. Shame! Worse: No doubt these close ‘friends’ have used my name, info, maybe even photos without my permission, thinking it ‘innocent’…who do i seek justice for this infraction, or sue? Of course, i would never sue anyone anyway, and this government has become completely untrustworthy. What’s the point? i want nothing to do with this scam of narcissistic sociopathic civilization. i’m opting out. Find other victims. Look around people: you’re pawns and taking us all down with your denial and party on lives. Virtually no one cares and no one will change their biosphere killing ways. i’m ashamed of my species who are murdering Earth with every breath taken. i believe i originated the term ‘The Inbrednet’, or one species only communicating with itself. Who needs all the other lifeforms anyway? Soon i’ll exit the inbrednet and then this computer will also find its demise. Wish me luck, though luck won’t make it so. (And how many of you are wondering how this info will be employed by the Dark Side? If you’ve read this, not to fear for it’s ‘safely’ and ‘securely’ stored in ‘The Cloud’ for your protection.) Sincerely, r [You wanted to hear views, right? There’s one.]

Thanks, Robert! Loving the ‘inbrednet’. I sympathise with your disillusionment, we’re killing this planet, our home, and there doesn’t seem to be anything anyone can do to prevent it; we’re all part of the problem :(

Well, one thing everyone–and anyone–can do is to stop killing, murdering and eviscerating it. It ain’t easy, but i’m going for it. Wanna join? What’s there to lose other than the most beautiful planet in the Universe? Thanks for your reply. Now, back to not destroying the planet. Best…r

I fear that I may be as guilty as the rest. I don’t go on hunting trips to secure white rhino horns or elephant tusks; I don’t fly anymore; I haven’t had a fast food hamburger in years; I try to avoid as much plastic packaging as I can. But I’m still a part of the machine that does all these things and more :(

Oh, so timely because I am close to republishing a recent item that appeared on Naked Capitalism. This one: https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2018/03/wolf-richter-anyone-still-facebook.html

That’s an important article, Paul, I’m glad you’re thinking of republishing it…
[Facebook] said with tone-deaf Facebook hilarity, “Privacy and data protections are fundamental to every decision we make.”
An aggrieved consumer cannot delete the data these outfits have collected on that consumer. While Facebook allows you to “delete” items and “delete” your account, the data stays behind on the server. It’s available for all purposes; it’s just not publicly viewable.
… I’ve been there. I ‘deleted’ my FB account once, a long time ago (and lost a real life friend who believed I had ‘unfriended’ them) … but when I logged on again some time later, I found that all my information was still in place. More fool me, I guess :/

Changed my mind about republishing that item. I think it’s all been said by others and it feels like other topics are more important now.

Wow…this was creepy but so true. I will definitely share this with my son and daughter. I never did get involved with Facebook years ago when it started and I have gotten so many stares when I tell people I don’t do Facebook. My husband and I got rid of our cell phone over a decade ago…we get crazy judged for that one. Now I see apps popping up more and more, making it harder to function without a cellphone. My son and daughter went through high school with no cell phones but once my daughter started college she had to get one because the schools make it almost impossible to function without one. When we are up north at our place in the middle of nowhere (our little red house) we have no internet service so it is a break from that world. It is nice just hanging out in the woods and being out out in nature.

David — do you have a blog? I wanted to visit it as a ‘thank you’ for your leaving a comment here, but there’s no site listed on your Gravatar, and your name doesn’t link to one either… just wondering.

No facebook here…literally agree with what it does to the mind..I’ve seen it so many times,, just losing track of life chasing others day..

I’ve been tempted not to reply because of the inherent irony of a post that rails against facebook but which, through the comments, does something similar in itself… but then again it does feel somewhat churlish not to say ‘thank you for your comment’! :)

No worries..no bashing meant here..just sad to how its abused..we as humans are responsible to decern our time and make sure we monitor our own use..people too often out the blame everywhere but where it belongs..at themselves..I chose it to be off for reasons that would serve my life better at the time…I appreciate your kindness.

I don’t like Facearse other Twatter. I like hiding here where nobody reads anything I have to say and I don’t feel obliged to say when I am making a slice of toast. I might not even say if it is snowing outside. Most people these days have windows these days. Let me just go out and take a picture if is…

Sounds to me as though you have a healthy attitude :) Hey, at least you get some fresh air when you go out to take your picture… ;)

😁 I get fresh air a lot because I do gardening for my mum and my own garden. Also I am gardener at the mental health hospital I work in. That’s a lot of sunscreen and diet coke.

Reblogged this on Ray OF LIGHT 144 and commented:
Great article about the use of social media & especially so when the media platform is multidimensional. Platforms which are based on single function topics are better in that you would only use them if interested in a single topic because they don’t absorb so much of people’s attention. Other social media sites seek to absorb all our attention & therefore take us completely out of the body. When we are completely out of the body we hand over our awareness to others to use therefore we lose free will, we give it away.
