Climate deniers will have a hard time explaining these to their grandchildren, the kids who are now woke to the disasters they’ve been served by blindness and greed.

i well recall the 80s (and the 70s, 60s, 50s and a mite before)…This is an amazing overview explicitly demonstrating just how far the statesmanship (statespersonship?), of particularly the US, has deteriorated and descended into greed, denial and utter insanity, since the 80s. Though there is much personal passion i’d like to state, and outright contempt of the current breed of bonafide hustlers and sociopaths running amok and murdering The Most Beautiful Planet In the Universe, i will make merely one suggestion–nonviolently, as difficult as this is at this desperate stage of our Earth: round up all the known suspects of denial in government, business and special anti-Earth interests, demand they watch and listen to their former colleagues of integrity lay Reality clearly before them, now 30 plus years later. As for the grandchildren AND ALL THE MAGNIFICENT LIFEFORMS, i am so sorry for what you will be facing, though i believe even we boomers will catch much of the initial disasters we were so responsible for–and we deserve it. i thank our host for sharing this. There is still much each one of us can do to for this planet that has gifted us with our breaths, so i am now returning to doing my part for Earth.

I’ve watched that Academy Award winning movie featuring Al Gore – “An Inconvenient Truth”. What an eye opener.

Same here. And yet the only thing I’ve ever read folk saying about it is how he ‘made mistakes’ (a couple of trivial ones). That was truly a seminal piece, it should be more readily available. But instead we get ‘action movies’.

Remember when G-Dubs got help snatching the Presidency from Gore in 2000? Yeah. That one really hurt.

I don’t remember: I don’t think I ever knew that story. Care to enlighten me? (Bear in mind I’m in the UK.) Things might have been a whole lot different now, had Al Gore won…

Ahk! It’s so painful. First, Gore won the popular vote. As for the Electoral College tally, it all came down to the state of Florida, where there were numerous complaints about the lack of clarity regarding the new ballots, as well as murkier complaints of disenfranchisement among minority and poor districts. Ultimately the Supreme Court decided in favor (4-5 decision) of Bush as the winner, ending the recount, so that by a margin of 537 votes Bushy slipped by with exactly ONE more electoral vote than Gore. It’s excruciating to think of the alternate turn-of-the-century narrative had Gore been our President. Bush, after all, started the Iraq War under false pretenses that essentially (irrevocably?) destabilized the Middle East all for the benefit of fossil fuel overlords, whereas Gore is internationally recognized as a leading proponent of renewable energy in the face of climate change. The mischief makers in the USA know no bounds. Also shady elements to the Bush 2004 re-election vs. Kerry, primarily in Ohio. Frankly, it’s a minor miracle that Obama was elected twice. Sheer numbers I suppose. And now, another non popular vote winner in the White House whose name I cannot even bear to write or utter. I just say Dumpster, and fume at the onslaught of proposals seemingly intended to burn up the world. Apparently a necessary component of propping up the megawealthy. God Help the USA.

Thanks for taking the time to educate me, much appreciated.
It’s not just the USA that needs the help of a deity; it’s all of us. I keep dreaming that one day we might wake up and realise we’re all on Spaceship Earth together….

True that!

But yet… Here we still are. And Al Gore has one of his mansions on the coast. And global warmongers are still flying around the planet in private jets.

Mansions on the coast and private jets are chicken feed to the real problems we face. In fact what we need is more of those with those (admittedly obscene) traits to join in the fight.
