Lost in the din

The mass of humanity
Upon our planet Earth
Is greater than it’s ever been
Since civilisation’s birth.

Fossil fuels are burning
Faster than ever before.
We’re only now just learning;
Science has been telling us
We need to change our ways.
But society’s inertia
Won’t allow for change in days.

Gradual changes will be too slow.
And yet, change is coming
Whether we say ‘yes’ or ‘no’:
We need to act NOW.

We need educators
To help us understand
We need imaginators
Of what’s coming to our land.

Instead, we’re led by puppets
To sleeping industries
That simply will not wake up
To the harsh realities.

I have met the enemy;
And he is us.

I am just one voice.
I will not be heard.
(The din is overwhelming
And I only get the bird.)

The future will be different
From the comfy past.

Whatever you’re gonna do — do it fast.”
