How does ‘ye Oath of Giftiness’ grab you, as an idea?
Yesterday, when the two copies of the JourneyQuest Season 1 DVD I had ordered arrived, I watched one and gave one away under ye Oath of Giftiness. Spot the freshly made-up name.*
Oath of Giftiness blanks for your use:
oath of giftiness blank (OpenOffice)
oath of giftiness blank (MS-Word)
* I had one of those ideas, you see, the type that seem good but quite often, in the cold light of day, don’t bear scrutiny… this one still seems to have merit, to me. Would you agree?

Do you still do this in 2021?

To be honest, I haven’t employed this technique very many times, as, on the occasions I have done so, I’ve been left with the definite impression that the recipients of the gift were focussing too heavily on the ‘obligation’ part of the deal. It’s almost as though the act of giving the gift itself was soured in some way by the attachment of ‘ye Oath’. (Even though the small print gives them a way out*.)
I do still think that it has potential, though. It’s actually quite odd that you should be asking me this right now, as I was thinking about it again just the other day, so look out for another post about it at some point :)
* I’m actually quite proud of that small print, as it does the exact opposite of what small print usually does…
