Electronic Arts (EA), one of the biggest video game companies in the world, is the target of a boycott orchestrated by hateful anti-gay groups. Thousands of anti-gay letters are flooding EA’s headquarters, threatening to push the company and its staff to the dark side. Why? Because they had the courage to give players around the world the option of including a gay romance storyline in their popular MMO game Star Wars: The Old Republic.
(According to System Requirements Lab my PC doesn’t have the grunt to run that game. Pity. And since I refuse to upgrade — just to play a game — because of the unsustainable environmental cost of our electronics addiction… it will be a while till I can).
According to All Out, an organisation devoted to promoting equality for humans whatever their own sexual preferences, one boycotter wrote in to EA complaining ‘homos are ruining gaming!’. What utter nonsense.
All Out claims that it has persuaded Master Yoda to join the cause. (I find this a little hard to swallow, myself, but stranger things have happened.) Allegedly, Yoda wants to make sure Electronic Arts knows anti-gay haters don’t win the game. Please consider adding your name to the letter urging the company to stay away from the dark side. I and more than 20,000 people already did; but, the more the merrier!
